Shopping for Flooring? Let’s Make a Deal!

Aren’t you sick of hearing about the Recession? Bleck! I am. But the fact of the matter is, the economy is affecting the way we spend. Sales are down pretty much across the board. However, you can use that to your advantage when shopping for flooring.

Trust me, retailers want to sell to you.

Now, more than ever they’ll work to make a sale happen. But it’s up to you to make sure you’re getting a “deal” – not shoddy flooring. Here’s my guide to help you stretch your dollar without compromising the quality of your new floor.

In the shopping phase…

Let a professional visit your house so they can see the space. An expert flooring retailer has evaluated, sold and installed thousands of floors. When they see what they’re working with first hand, they can make suggestions that save you time, money and heartache, guaranteeing you’ll love the results.

Ask for an installed price for each flooring option you’re considering. If you only look at square foot price, you might get burned on labor. Also make sure you find out the details of what installation includes. And just so we’re clear, this estimate should be free.

Don’t be afraid to ask. Will this item go on sale? Is there something comparable that may be less expensive? Are there any coupons?

The bottom line: This is a buyer’s market. Let the flooring retailer earn your business.

After the decision is made…

To make installation a little less expensive, you can

  • Move your own furniture
  • Remove your own carpet
  • Put in your own quarter round*
  • Repair your own subfloor*

*Only if you’re crafty!
